Scarborough Shooting Stars Sign Non-American Import Hason Ward
The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that they have signed Bajan born Hason Ward.
The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 4.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 12.3 minutes per game over 51 games and two seasons with the Iowa State Cyclones. Prior to transferring to Iowa in 2022, Ward played three seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University. During his sophomore year, he ranked second in the Atlantic-10 and 21 nationally in blocked shots per game. He was also named to the 2020-21 Atlantic-10 Conference All-Defensive Team.
The St. Thomas native is Scarborough’s fifth player signing of the season. The Shooting Stars welcomed back 2023 champions Cat Barber, Kalif Young, Danilo Djuricic and Kyree Walker earlier this off-season.
The reigning CEBL Champions open their season on May 24 at the Canada Life Centre where they will take on the Winnipeg Sea Bears. A league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees, the CEBL boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 73% of its 2023 rosters being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS.
