Shooting Stars Move To 6-1 - Exercise Niagara Demons From 10 Months Ago

With all due respect to Sean East II of the Brampton Honey Badgers and Jaelen House of the Vancouver Bandits, my early vote for CEBL MVP is Scarborough guard Myles Powell.

The league's leading scorer at 28.3 points per game and leader in Target Time winners did exactly that in tonight’s 104-93 win; score 28 points and hit the Target Time winner.

After the first quarter, Scarborough essentially held a 10-13 point lead over Niagara for most of the night and went into Target Time up 95-82. A quick 10-2 run by the River Lions made it a 97-92 game, and they possessed the ultimate trump card, Khalil Ahmad.

Ahmad is a two time CEBL Clutch Player of the Year (2022,2023) and the CEBL's all time leader in Target Time winners with 30.Just 10 months ago in the in the same arena and the same matchup, he knocked Scarborough out of the playoffs with a Target Time three to win 93-91.

The 2026 version of Scarborough wasn't fazed. Charles Bediako toughed out an offensive rebound and dunked it back home, Javan Johnson threw down a dunk of his own and Powell hit a ridiculous side step three to win it, his sixth of the night.

Johnson ended the game with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists on 62% shooting from three (5-8). He’s now played 32 more minutes than the next closest player on Scarborough and he’s shooting 43.2% from three on over 7 attempts a game. Not to mention, usually picking up the best offensive wing on the other team.

The usual suspects showed up alongside Johnson as well. Powell scored 28 to go along with 7 assists and Frank Mitchell posted his fifth double-double in seven games with 21 points and 10 assists.

With a Honey Badgers loss to Montreal to move them to 7-2 and .778 win percentage, Scarborough now sits atop the CEBL with a 6-1 record and .857 win percentage.
