Shooting Stars Select Christie, Thomas and Hackett in the 2024 CEBL Draft

The Scarborough Shooting Stars have selected Dalhousie guard and U SPORTS First-Team All Canadian Malcolm Christie in the first round of the 2024 CEBL Draft. Scarborough drafted AUS Rookie of the Year Koat Thomas out of St. Francis Xavier in the second round and Brock University freshman Davanté Hackett in the third round.


This will be Christie’s second season with the Shooting Stars as the Fredericton native signed a developmental contract as a free agent with the team last summer. Christie boasted a great Junior year at Dalhousie averaging 23.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3 assists in 33.7 minutes per game through 23 games. He set a school record for most points scored in a game (51) and a new AUS record for most 3-point shots made in a season (79). Christie was named the 2023-24 AUS Most Valuable Player, AUS First Team All-Star, AUS Tournament All-Star and AUS Tournament MVP. He was also a 2023-24 U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian. 


Waterloo guard, Koat Thomas was Scarborough’s second round pick. The St.FX guard averaged 8.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 25.8 minutes per game through 16 games. Thomas posted his first career triple-double against Acadia on January 31 with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He was named 2024 AUS Rookie of the Year and to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team.


With their third pick, Scarborough drafted Brock University guard Davanté Hackett. The Brampton native played 23 games for the Badgers, averaging 4.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 15.9 minutes per game. 


The defending CEBL Champions will open their 2024 season Friday, May 24 at the Canada Life Centre against the Winnipeg Sea Bears. Scarborough welcomes the Niagara River Lions to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre for their first home game on June 1 where they will drop their Championship Banner.
