“It's motivation for them to achieve their highest basketball dreams” Scarborough Shooting Stars Host Season 5 SSSkills Camp
Family Day in Scarborough

The Scarborough Shooting Stars held the first of four PA Day camps at Royal Crown Private High School on Monday, 16 Feb, 2026. The camp was led by former professional basketball stars and current members of the Shooting Stars coaching staff, Daniel Mullings and Kyle Johnson.
The morning started with the younger group of 7-10 year olds and the afternoon featured the 11-14 year olds.
“I think it was a great day overall, beginning with the younger group, they were a little more in their shell but with the activations that we did, they became more comfortable,” said Mullings. “As we went through the day from drill to drill, we progressed… and they ended up competing a lot.”
The younger ages played from 9-12 AM, starting with the basics of dribbling with each hand, when to use a chest pass vs a bounce pass and form shooting before getting into some scrimmages. With the older ages, they were in action from 12-3 PM, working on expanding the fundamentals, communicating on defence and creative finishing around the rim.
“With the older kids, we're able to add a little bit onto what we did (with the younger group) and make it a little more advanced and competition-based,” said Mullings.“Not only teaching them, but also talking about the mental side of the game, the IQ part, and explaining why we're doing things rather than just doing them.”
Having two coaches with a combined 22 years of pro basketball experience, including Mullings who won a championship with the Shooting Stars in 2022, made an impact on the campers.
“They have a great mindset, and the right teaching for us to get better,” said a camper.
“Having two, not just one, but two pros coaching us. It feels really like you can learn a lot from them,” added another camper.
Mullings and Johnson are both from Scarborough and after retiring from their pro careers, have made concerted efforts to help develop the next generation. Mullings coaches at Royal Crown School in Scarborough, where the event was held and is also a premier prep basketball school in Canada. Johnson is the Technical Lead for High Performance at the Ontario Basketball Association, where he provides coaching and leadership for young athletes.
“We care about Scarborough. The development and struggle growing up, and now we want to be those mentors that are able to help the community here,” said Mullings.
“It's nice to be home and pay the game forward,” said Johnson. “It's also pretty cool that these kids have an opportunity to come and watch a professional team in Scarborough. It's motivation for them to achieve their highest basketball dreams.”
There will be three more PA Day camps before the school year ends. These sessions will run on April 6, June 5, and June 26 as well as the first ever Shooting Stars March Break camp, happening March 16-18.
