TheScarborough Shooting Stars Foundation focuses on youth aged 8-18 in three different sectors. Under-resourced youth who come from low-income households and are facing financial barriers to organized sport, newcomer youth who are new to the country and have not had the opportunity to seek belonging and foster the community connections that come with sport, and at-risk youth who are exposed to community disorder or limited positive mentorship.

There are four main pillars of growth that the Foundation and your support are building to empower positive development.

Education

Twice a week there will be tutoring and homework support in collaboration with schools alongside structured credit accumulation tracking to help students in grades 9-12.

Leadership

Students will participate in mentorship circles alongside athletes, alumni and community leaders. These sessions will build confidence, communication skills and positive social development.

Physical Activity

Structured basketball training and physical literacy are combined with an emphasis on discipline, teamwork and access to mental health education.

Career Exposure

Participants in the program gain leadership experience and access to the Scarborough Shooting Stars network of career opportunities including internships, volunteer opportunities, and job placements. Career opportunities include exposure to coaching, sports operations, and event staff roles.

Together we can empower Scarborough’s youth to dream big and thrive, building futures, one child at a time.
