Scarborough Defeats Brampton, Moves 1 Win Closer to History

The Scarborough Shooting Stars defeated the Brampton Honey Badgers for the third straight time this season, winning 117-104 at the CAA Centre in Brampton.

Scarborough now moves to a league-best 19-4 record on the season, five wins more than the next closest CEBL team and eight games above eastern conference second seed Brampton. If Scarborough defeats Brampton on Monday night in their final regular season game, they will become the first CEBL team to ever hit 20 wins and break the single season wins record.

Today's matchup started off with Terquavion Smith and Myles Powell hitting back-to-back-to-back deep elbow threes and the tone was set from there. Powell finished with 27 points, Smith 25 and wing Javan Johnson dropped in 20 as well. With CEBL 6 Man of the Year frontrunner Frank Mitchell adding 15 points and a whopping 17 rebounds off the bench, there was just no stopping Scarborough.

It's been a storyline all season but this game may have been more clear than others. The Shooting Stars want to win, they believe they are the best team in the league and they have fun doing it. With the top seed in the CEBL locked up, there was technically nothing to gain from this game. That didnt matter to head coach Tyrell Vernon, Powell or anyone on Scarborough. 

"We can't play basketball a different way. It doesn't work. I'm not that kind of coach," said Vernon last game when asked about coming into these games.

With the score 83-78 at the end of the third, Scarborough went on a 20-5 run full of deep threes, putback dunks, a few technical fouls and a lot of smiles on the Scarborough bench. It's been an infectious attitude and team culture and as much as it can infuriate opponents, you can't say it doesn't work.
