Scarborough moves to 3-0 after wild comeback

There’s something special cooking in the endsss. With the Saskatoon Mamba up 103-88 in Target Time, the Shooting Stars undefeated start to the season looked to be in danger. Instead, Scarborough burst out for a 19-0 run to win 107-103 and move to 3-0.

The comeback win was reminiscent of Tuesday’s affair with the Winnipeg Sea Bears where Scarborough trailed 83-93 with five minutes left in the game but was able to win 102-101. For a team full of guys playing in the CEBL for the first time, they do seem to enjoy Target Time.

“Right now we are playing with a turn it on when it’s winning time switch. To have that ability is phenomenal but we got to see if we can get that switch earlier,” said head coach Tyrell Vernon.

The man who put the final dagger in the now 0-4 Saskatoon Mamba was Scarborough forward Aamir Simms. His elbow three capped off a 19 point, 13 rebound effort all while showcasing his leadership abilities as a 27 year old veteran.

“For teams to be successful somebody has to be that guy and I don't mind being that guy… I’m all about the team so it just comes natural ,” said Simms.

This was Simms’ second target score winner, with the first coming last Friday against Montreal.

“I like Target Time because it just shows who wants the game more. Who really wants to win.”

Charles Bediako stood out for Scarborough today, posting 11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. His brother Jaden Bediako is a member of Saskatchewan but was unable to play today. The two should get their chance to square off against each other in 10 days when Scarborough faces Saskatoon again in Saskatoon on May 31.

“Hearing that he wasn’t playing today, yeah I got kinda angry,” said Bediako jokingly. “We’re about to go home, eat some food, talk about the game and then I’m right back to training.”

Kellen Tynes posted his third straight four steal game and now leads the league in that category. He held the Mamba’s leading scorer, Tavian Dunn-Martin and his 23 PPG average to only nine points on 33% shooting.

Myles Powell had another strong game, posting 27 points including 11 in the fourth quarter and Target Time.

“At the end of the day we didn’t execute what we wanted until [Target Time]. We saw in [Target Time] what we should have been doing all game,” said Tynes.
